The November 2015 edition of Bitcoin Wednesday begins at 15:00 (sharp!) on 4 November 2015.

We’ll kick off with insightful presentations, then conclude with dinner that includes both a special talk and a dinner discussion about the role Dutch banks are taking in this sector.

It will be held at the Marine Terrein, the former Royal Marine base in the heart of the city, that is being converted to a center for sustainability and innovation.

The November 4th lineup will include:

David Goldstone, widely-known as the commercial barrister at Quadrant Chambers in London who belongs to the UKDCA’s Regulatory Working Group.  David has been involved in digital currencies since 2011.  He is responsible for the UKDCA’s submissions to the New York Department of Financial Services regarding New York States’ widely criticized “BitLicense” regulations.

Ashley Taylor, a Social Innovation and Strategy member of Consensus Systems (ConsenSys), a blockchain company pioneering development on the cryptographically-secure, decentralized network called Ethereum.  In her presentation, “Technology for a Web of Cooperative Economies“, Ashley will talk about how cooperative ownership and social enterprise are catalyzed by a new wave of decentralized technologies such as the blockchain.

Aron van Ammers, CTO of Blockstars, will present the proof-of concept for his latest Ethereum-based project, MoneyCircles.com: peer-to-peer lending governed by smart contracts on a blockchain.  MoneyCircles.com offers a new way of lending which aims to be more ethical and social, and to have better financial characteristics than the current options for both savers and borrowers. The core of MoneyCircles is based on smart contracts on a blockchain to provide cryptographically verifiable honest behavior.

Menno Weij, partner at Amsterdam-based tech law firm Solv, will address the recent ruling from the EU Court of Justice that bitcoins are exempt from VAT. He draws from 17 years experience in Dutch tech law including the case he’s handling that is now in appeal from the court in Overijssel about whether or not Bitcoin is money, something else or something more.

Cryptocurrency advisor Toufic “Tey” Alrjoula, based in The Hague, will give a selective review of a few of the most significant developments in the sector over the last two months.  Tey holds a certificate from the University of Nicosia’s course “Introduction to Digital Currencies” and has been a full-time consultant in the sector since 2013.

Writer, photographer, communications expert and publisher Peter de Ruiter writes about Bitcoin and the Blockchain for the online news magazine Follow The Money. He also launched the app Blockheads which delivers news on the same subject. During the benefit dinner immediately following the conference, Peter will talk about the role of Dutch banks in the digital currency sector.

Harm Aarts, software developer for the Swiss-based Monetas transaction platform will explain how this solution puts consumers in charge of their own assets, allows merchants to accept currencies at negligible costs, and helps banks to profit from a cheap and scalable system.

Pieter Jan Bakhuijzen, a network architect, focusing on network and security architecture and data center design, and a specialist in managing infrastructure for the Dash network, will give an introduction to the Dash ecosystem, including some of its most notable recent developments.

You are invited to join us once again on 4 November 2015 for another program revolving around the important recurring theme of cryptocurrencies in Dutch society. As you’ve come to expect, networking will be at the heart of this event: run into your old, familiar Bitcoin Wednesday friends and colleagues and tell stories about the early days; meet the newcomers and share your ideas about the future. After a number of thought-provoking conference presentations, there will be ample opportunity for networking at the bar.
