Cosmos: The Network for Blockchains
Converting one type of cryptocurrency to another usually requires going through a centralized intermediary like an exchange. The Cosmos project plans to offer an alternative by allowing different blockchains to connect to one another through the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol (IBC). With this technology interoperability between the growing numbers of public and private blockchains in the world would be facilitated by the Cosmos Hub, which is based on the Tendermint consensus protocol. This system tracks the number of tokens in each interconnected chain and manages direct transfers between them.
During Bitcoin Wednesday on 1 March 2017, the COO of Tendermint, Brian Fabian Crain will about how Cosmos solves the problem of moving and exchanging assets from different blockchouains without a centralized intermediary.
In addition to his work with Tendermint, Brian is the founder of the Berlin Blockchain Meetup and co-founder and host of the blockchain industry podcast, Epicenter, which reaches 10,000 listeners per week. Brian was previously in charge of Business Development at the enterprise blockchain company Monax. He has degrees in economics, philosophy and cognitive science from The University of Chicago, London School of Economics and University College London.
