Arthur Breitman, Architect of the Tezos Protocol

Arthur Breitman, Co-Founder of Tezos

Arthur Breitman is an architect of the Tezos protocol, which is one of the leading blockchains in the field of on-chain governance.  The project raised $232 million during its fundraiser in 2017, put its network into production in June 2018, and as of April 2019 claims a market cap of more than $890 million.

Although Tezos is arguably on its way to becoming one of the success stories of 2019, the path to this point was fraught with difficulties, including a now-resolved conflict between board members of the Swiss-based Tezos Foundation and lawsuits from dissatisfied token holders.  Nevertheless, Tezos is an operational cryptocurrency and smart-contract platform, and despite its recent launch, has a relatively long history, stretching back to 2014.

Arthur plans to talk about:

  • Tezos and its road map;
  • Why Smart Contracts Make You Better Money and How To Make Them Secure;
  • What On-Chain Governance Is All About;
  • Why Proof-of-Stake Offers Great Security and Economic Trade Offs; and
  • Deriving Blockchain Use Cases From First Principles.

He writes, “I also plan to explain some of the philosophy behind the protocol, its design goals and important technical features, including on-chain governance as a protection against social attacks on the protocol.”

Arthur is one of the Co-Founders of Tezos and a contributor to the Tezos community.  Prior to becoming involved in Tezos full time, he worked at Google X and Waymo on self-driving cars.  Even earlier, he worked as a quantitative analyst at both Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. He graduated from the École polytechnique outside of Paris and holds a MS in financial mathematics from the Courant Institute at NYU.
