Explained Integrating a Wallet Inside Web Browser
A possible key to more widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies could be their use within mainstream applications. On 4 December 2019 Bitcoin Wednesday will present Charles Hamel, Opera’s Product Lead for Cryptocurrencies who will share his vision for integrating a wallet inside a web browser.
Charles’ presentation will address the opportunities and challenges for this new version of Opera and explain how and why it was introduced. He will also share his thoughts on the Internet of Value and bridging the gap between today’s cryptocurrency wallets and the apps and services that may want to support cryptocurrencies in the future.
Opera is the first major browser to include a cryptocurrency wallet for payments. It supports Ethereum ERC-20 tokens and also includes a Web 3 Dapp explorer for discovering decentralized applications. The freeware browser has a long history: Originally launched in 1994 as a research project of the Norwegian telco Telenor, now the product belongs to NASDAQ-listed Opera Software. The Chinese billionaire video game distributor Zhou Yahui owns a controlling interest.
As Opera’s Cryptocurrency Product Lead Charles Hamel is responsible for all crypto initiatives at the company. He previously held senior product roles for Opera Max and Opera Mini, and prior to that, served Opera Software as a QA and Devops engineer. He holds a degree in Software Engineering from Université Laval in Quebec, Canada.
