Dr. Astrid Woollard, a Partner at Scytale Ventures, will be joining us for the live stream of our 83rd conference of Bitcoin Wednesday on 6 May 2020. In her presentation, Dr. Woollard will introduce Scytale, which is a fund investing in blockchain and related technologies.
From her experience in running startups, Dr. Woollard will also talk about the dos and don’ts of starting up a venture in the blockchain sector. Dr. Woollard made her career in technology transfer, where she gained extensive experience establishing startups. She is a well-known startup mentor for a number of startups within Europe. Her focus is on intellectual property and business strategy, including regulatory affairs and data protection. She was awarded Fund Manager 2019 in Austria. Dr. Woollard has worked for world-renowned institutions, such as the University of Oxford and the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria. She also supported the development and foundation of IST Austria’s investment fund, IST Cube.
Dr. Woollard was born in Vienna, Austria, where she studied for a Master’s in Microbiology and Genetics. During her undergraduate degree, she worked for a diverse range of pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies and gained her first hands-on experience in regulatory affairs and quality control. In 2008, Astrid moved to the UK to read for a D Phil in Plant Sciences and Cell Biology at St. Catherine’s College at the University of Oxford while managing her own jewellery business. In 2012, she took up the position of Security Policy Adviser for the BioMedBridges project at the Science and Technology Facilities Council and has since focused on intellectual property and ethical issues arising from data sharing and re-use within this EU project. Her unique background allows her to address questions that need to combine both research interests and legal obligations.
