OurSolarGrid.org Presented by Dr. Martin Berger
During Bitcoin Wednesday on 5 October 2016, Dr. Martin Berger will present the award-winning blockchain solution for the energy sector, Our Solar Grid.
Global warming is a fact and our conventional energy production is one of its major causes. However, photovoltaic energy as a renewable alternative energy source has a problem in many countries: A decreasing remuneration for feed-in over the past three years has led to rapidly falling capacity growth rates.
Oursolargrid.org aims to reverse this trend by building local energy grids that give incentives to local renewable energy producers. Within local grids working on top of existing energy infrastructures, willing consumers can donate to local producers. Their total donation is
distributed to local producers proportionally to their feed-in by a smart contract on a blockchain.
Oursolargrid.org was initiated by ITP Innovative Technologie Projekte GmbH in April 2016 and was shortlisted for the GTEC Blockchain Innovation Award in May 2016.
ITP is a small software consulting and developing company specialized in innovative technology projects, mainly in the financial sector. Dr. Martin Berger is head of ITP’s innovation lab which is focused on how to apply cutting edge technology to practical use, and Oursolargird.org is one of its spinoffs.
Martin was born and raised in Bavaria, Germany and has been passionate about math since school. He studied mathematics at OTH Regensburg & Hochschule Mittweida with specific interest in optimization algorithms and cryptography. He received his degree from TU Kaiserslautern in 2010 for an Operational Research thesis dealing with bicriteria optimization in electronic design automation. From 2010-2014 he worked as a senior researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics and lead and contributed to research projects in microelectronics, automobile, logistics and health care. In his spare time Martin enjoys spending time with his little son, hiking outdoors and playing soccer.
