Speculations on Trust and Currency

Speculations on Trust and Currency

As part of the courses Graphic Design and Interactive Media third year students of the Graphic Design department of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) were given the task to research, understand and give their opinion on Bitcoin and the future impact of digital currency on the world.

Under the guidance of instructors Niels Schrader, Lauren Alexander of the Royal Academy of Art and Richard Kohl from the Bitcoin Foundation of the Netherlands, students have developed a series of audio-visual and interactive performances under the title “Speculations on Trust and Currency” which they will present during Bitcoin Wednesday on the 6th of April 2016.

Lauren Alexander and Niels Schrader are both faculty members of the graphic design department at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK). Since 2013, they have taken a multidisciplinary approach to their teaching and have run large-scale research and design projects with collaborators outside of the academic environment. Projects include two exhibitions produced in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance (2014, 2016), a cartography project re-mapping the EU published on Open! – Platform for Art, Culture and the Public Domain (2013) and a project about Cryptography from which many of the students’ final works were shown at the MOTI Museum of the Museum, Breda (2015).
