Jos Roling, Senior IT Architect from IBM

Jos Röling of IBM

Jos Röling is a senior IT Architect from IBM with a focus on the application of the Internet of Things and the Blockchain in the energy and utilities sector.  He has been following Bitcoin since 2014, but his interest has intensified after IBM became a premier member of the Hyperledger project.

During Bitcoin Wednesday on 3 August, 2016, Mr. Röling and his colleague Louis de Bruin will give a talk with the title “The Blockchain in Practice” in which they address how IBM sees the impact of the Blockchain on various industries, including Energy and Utilities.  For this they will take us through a number of use cases, including some actual implementations in which IBM is currently engaged with customers.

The presentation will also cover IBM’s preferred Blockchain technology, Hyperledger, as well as the reason why IBM has been actively engaged in the Hyperledger initiative.

Mr. Röling predicts that cryptocurrencies and permissionless blockchains will only play a minor role in the energy sector because he believes that permissioned blockchains deliver superior system stability.  After receiving his degree in electrical engineering from HTS Rotterdam, Mr. Röling worked for equipment manufacturers Digital Equipment, Compaq and Hewlett Packard as well as for the energy company, Alliander.  In his spare time he is a speed skating instructor.cation eves
