From Switzerland, Paul Mahone one of the creators of NxtFreeMarket will speak at Bitcoin Wednesday in Amsterdam on 6 April, 2016. Paul is a MEAN and LAMP developer who graduated from Harvard University in 2011. He has been involved in electronic marketplaces since making a purchase on the online system called AMIX (American Information Exchange) in 1992.
FreeMarket is an uncensored, decentralized marketplace for physical goods that is built on the Nxt platform. FreeMarket offers an inexpensive way for anyone to list items for sale or to make purchases. Messages between buyer and seller, are encrypted. The FreeMarket app is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and there is also a web version. FreeMarket’s user interface is already available in 13 languages. (Paul himself speaks Italian, English and Japanese.)
During his presentation Paul will discuss his motivations for building this marketplace, and how he created this Nxt-based platform to support continued ease of development and resistance to take down. Paul will give a demonstration of the basic features of FreeMarket, including searching, listing items for sale, buying items, decrypting messages, and using FreeMarket’s built-in currency conversion functions.
During his talk he will review some of the challenges to UI development posed by using a blockchain as the market’s database, and how the FreeMarket team has worked around these issues. Paul will also include a preview of upcoming features, including the new escrow system. Paul has been involved in Nxt for about 2 years, and was initially drawn to it by its low power requirements and easy-to-use brainwallets.
He is an enthusiastic practitioner of the Krav Maga self-defense system. He views strong passwords, encryption, and cryptocurrencies as extensions of the self-defense principles he learned in Krav Maga.
