PopChest Presents The POP Network
For Amsterdam’s big CoinFest celebration on 4 April, 2018, we’ll have a return visit from Valerian Bennett, CEO of Popchest, who will give a live demo of The POP Network, basically, decentralized video distribution with Ethereum payment channels and WebTorrent P2P video streaming.
The POP Network is a decentralized approach to monetized video distribution built on Ethereum and BitTorrent. The platform uses direct micropayments and token incentives instead of advertising and paid subscriptions that are common in the traditional video-on-demand world.
Key to this release are:
• A decentralized video architecture using BitTorrent and WebTorrent for peer-to-peer video streaming and Ethereum payment channels for decentralized payments;
• The POP Token (our native cryptocurrency) with ERC-20 payment channels that allow for scalable micropayment monetization and won’t clog the Ethereum network like Cryptokitties; and
• No plugins, no downloads, all in the browser which means that the service is device independent and will run on everything from SmartTVs to mobile phones.
By the time the big guys in Hollywood like Spielberg, Coppola and Lucas get around to financing their productions with ICOs, Valerian will already be ahead of them. He had recently launched PopChest, which presented video with no ads, smart contracts, and the soon-to-come POP Token. “No ads, no subscriptions,” Valerian explained. “We created PopChest so that viewers can support the artists they love and artists can directly connect with their most passionate fans.”
PopChest’s concept relies on smart contracts to automate direct-to-creator micro payments in order to disrupt the advertising-based video distribution model. When the POP Token is released later this year, Valerian believes it will encourage more creators to publish their film and video independently since they will be able to get paid directly and own their own content indefinitely.
Valerian is a veteran television producer and editor and documentary filmmaker from Los Angeles. He earned a degree in film from the University of Southern California and has worked on television shows for ABC, MTV, E! and A&E, among others. In 2014 he released the documentary Bitcoin: Buenos Aires about the growing digital currency ecosystem in Argentina. He came here from Santa Monica to introduce his platform during Bitcoin Wednesday’s 4-Year Anniversary Edition on 5 July, 2017.
Valerian Bennett is founder and CEO of PopChest. Mr. Bennett is an award-winning television producer, editor, and documentary filmmaker with extensive media distribution experience. He earned a degree in film from the University of Southern California and has worked on hit television shows seen by millions for ABC, MTV, and E!, among others.
