During Bitcoin Wednesday on 7 March 2018, João Martins, VP of Business Development of Birdchain, talked about how their decentralized app allows users to earn cryptocurrency in exchange for their unused SMS messages. He also discussed how the DApp uses blockchain tech to track the usage and cost of each SMS used by a business to ensure fair and transparent payments for the users.

João says:

Why do most of the companies send you authentication requests through SMS, and not email and other ways of communication? That is because SMS are actually pretty useful and the most reliable way for businesses to contact clients. So when companies use these SMS here in The Netherlands, they are actually paying about 6.5 Euro per message, which is huge if you think of the total cost they incur by sending SMS.
