History of Bitcoin Wednesday

The origin of Bitcoin Wednesday was a forum post on BitcoinTalk.org that noted the coincidental synchronicity of nearly a dozen local Bitcoin meetups around the world.  The Dutch startup PikaPay.com is the founder and organizer of the event.

The first Bitcoin Wednesday was announced on 18 June, 2013 via the website of OHM2013 the hacker’s festival Observe, Hack, Make.  It was held at a cafe in Amsterdam on the Leidseplein, also known as Satoshiplein, the Dutch Satoshi Square, and was attended by a group of about 20 of the Netherland’s earliest digital currency pioneers.

This event has been held in Amsterdam at the same time on every first Wednesday of the month since its launch, sustained by contributions from all over the world.  While the Bitcoin Wednesday concept has inspired many imitators and competitors, the original Bitcoin Wednesday continues to grow, to unite and inspire the digital currency community in all its forms throughout The Netherlands.
