Explained Tokenizing Forests

Ekofolio’s founder Ian Choo will talk about the role cryptocurrencies can play in forest preservation. This talk will be live streamed during the virtual edition of Bitcoin Wednesday’s conference on sustainability and social impact on 6 May 2020.

Ekofolio is a Luxembourg-based mission-driven Fintech company, that enables everyone to invest in forests profitably. The organization is currently working on issuing Green Bonds, and a forestry-backed stable coin. The project is funded by The Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) of the European Commission.

Ian will explain the purpose of a forest-backed stable coin, the importance of tokenization of forest assets, the problems with the current model of forest investment, and the concept of nature as the next frontier in financial innovation.

Ian Choo is a Board Member of Power Blox Africa, an award-winning Swiss company that enables automated and decentralized electricity regulation and storage in the grid. He also serves as an adviser for the Nordic Blockchain Association.  He was previously a faculty member at Niels Brock International and Cleantech Innovation Summer School in Denmark. He holds an MSc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics, and co-founded the Nepal Music Festival, the largest volunteer-run music festival in Kathmandu.
